Ateneo Fiest 2007

Ahhh.... the Science Club booth. It houses all the clubs in the science cluster and since the name "Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics Club booth" is quite long so we shortened it to "Science Club".

The first year students have their challenge booth. I forgot what the challenges were but they made a ton of money. I have no idea what the Biology students did but they helped in the booth set-up. As for the Chemistry students, they have this slime-making booth where students can order slime which they can make themselves or have it pre-made by he club members. The slime comes in three different colors, the lime green being the most sought after.
The Physics Club had their share of the fiesta's spirit with their gimmick: Projectile Gun. The students battle it out among themselves to determine who among them can shoot the farthest.

Survivor Chemistry

We practically do this every year during the Science Month celebration (September-ish). The game is based on the Survivor (TV series) and follows the reality TV game show format. Students here will pretend that they are on some deserted island where in they need to use whatever knowledge they have in chemistry to survive.

Unlike the game show, our version doesn't have any cash prize or the tribe member elimination vote-off. The challenges that we put them through are designed to test their problem solving skills, teamwork, dexterity and a bit of endurance, which are very much patterned from the show.

Chemistry Club take on oxidizing agents... what?

Ahhh... sodium nitrate! I asked my club members to write any massage on a piece of paper using sodium nitrate. It's like a "secret message" thing. Then, when the whole thing was dried, they ignited the small part of their message with a smoldering match stick (no fire) and poof! Message revealed.
This activity was fun and smelly. The club members loved the smoke and they were oooohhhhs and aaahhhhs when the message appeared.

Chemistry Club and the Ateneo Fiesta 2008

Ateneo de Davao High School Fiesta 2008. Total chaos in our booth thingy (I really can put a name on what our booth is supposed to be. "Thingy" works fine.). We pretty much enjoyed the dysfunctional set-up of our booth. Hey, we're supposed to be systematic and organized but we're new at this.

The chemistry club booth: People are trying their luck on the projectile gun.

Hmmmmm...What does chemistry
have to do with projectiles? We honestly don't know, but it was a good money trap.

The integrated science club booth: This is the buzzer zapping contraption. The challenge here is to pass the metal loop to across the intricately looped wires without touching (or else it will buzz). Steady hands a must! But you don't need those oh-so-steady-hands to enjoy this. The best part is the irritating buzzing sound anyway.

We're selling stuff to raise funds for our camping. We actually didn't sell anything here but the club logo looks great. Go Chemistry Club! Thanks 3 - Bellarmine!

Ohhh... the Biology Club pay per view. See an amoeba at a low low price!

The books here were selling like hotcakes.
